Life doesn’t happen behind a desk…

Neither should childhood

Traditional education ain’t it

What does it mean to be intelligent? Some would say it’s knowing facts, trivia, answering questions correctly. Not us. We believe intelligence is in creative problem-solving, integrity, confidence, and asking questions–not answering them. Our children are born scientists; meant to build, destroy, discover, wonder, and create.

Montessori education influence

“No social problem is as universal as the oppression of the child.” -Maria Montessori. Montessori education is based on the principle belief that each child already harnesses unique, individual potential and deserves respect. This education method fosters independence, ambition, and creative problem-solving.

Emilio Reggio influence

Reggio education styles focus on interdependence, kindness, and ecological skills. It views children as capable individuals with an innate potential for learning. We agree. Instead of separating the child from daily life activities, we invite them in. We give responsibilities to children in a space where adults model responsibility and empathy.

Psychosocial influence

OUFT was founded by a trauma-certified mental health counselor and mother who is passionate about breaking cycles of normalized childhood trauma. Using counseling theories like Relational-Cultural Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Theory, Play Therapy, Lifespan Development Theories, and many more, our mission is to set the mental, emotional, social, and cultural stages for lifelong education.

Behavioral sciences influence

Although our founder has some beef with behavioral therapy, she practiced as one for over three years. What she took away from this experience was that most challenging behaviors are merely misguided communication, frustration tolerance can be built with a silent and confident adult, and how to evaluate levels of help that assist the child while also empowering them.

Multicultural influence

We at OUFT believe in modeling a respectful curiosity towards everyone regarding spiritual beliefs, identities, expressions, economic situations, abilities, and family makeups. Through diversity and multicultural experiences, we broaden our perspective about what it means to be a human and open the door for endless growth and opportunity.
